So did you know? How useful are commemorated days and events. It is like a tattoo. You get it to mark something and you keep it but that one moment that your eyes and consciousness glide over it, you remember just how much of importance it holds for you.
Did you know that it was Nigeria’s 61st independence day celebration on the first of October (01/10).
If you didn’t know, well now you do.
And boy is there a lot to unpack.
Where do we even begin.
Authentic and proud citizens who are ready to show up anywhere,
aromatic and delicious foods that attacks your taste buds with every bite,
enormous and beautiful culture that have you gapping like a child at a candy shop,
stylish and exotic clothing you can’t miss,
addictive and funny languages (it’s the one phrases for me; ‘haa’, ‘biko’, ‘jare’),
crazy and entertaining music, movies that are informative as well as creative.
And if this were to be all then I probably wouldn’t have had my fist up some months ago.
But that is it, because this isn’t all.
There is also the pain and the hurts.
The lamenting and the tears.
The suffering and the gut wrenching truths that are untold.
The failing economy and the misleading leaders.
The dubious and corrupt system that makes it almost impossible for anything progressive.
But then, isn’t that just life?
The good and the bad coexisting.
And to every rain that fell was sunshine. So meh or nah, this is Nigeria and happy 61.
We celebrated Mental Health Day on the tenth of October (10/10), did you know that?
I think most at times, we treat mental health like all that it entails is about a person being happy.
Mental health goes far than you just feeling good.
The balance of your emotions rightly, fairly, equally, fully and more.
I am hoping for a time where we don’t just mark this day with;
constant raising of awareness on just how crucial mental health is,
rebutting of stigmatization on the topic of mental health and illness
but celebrating with our friends and families and colleagues and even ourselves on just how far we have come in the maintenance of our mental health.
It was international day of the girl child on the eleventh of October (11/10), did you know?
It is almost easy to bag feminism, equal rights for the girl child and women under political correctness and propaganda.
But you really never know until you know.
I would have found it hard to accept that at this age and time, early marriages and teenage pregnancies were still very much predominant if I hadn’t moved to my current location where I see this everyday.
And I know how some people go about this in a very annoying manner that tends to be of putting.
But it doesn’t change that facts and numbers and researches and experiences.
Did you know about bad eggs? Good. We are just going to have to treat them like that.
Finally let’s end on a light note, did y’all know, ๐sorry, not y’all
Did you know that you have come to the end of the post๐.
