Give me back my pearls, you swine!
So I recently joined an online service and recall the Pastor talking about how we can easily misinterpret the meaning of things especially when it is out of context.
He even gave an example that he almost used the phrase “Netflix and Chill” in his sermon thinking it meant just that (to watch a movie and relax) but was lucky to have found out how wrong he was thankfully before saying that to his audience.
In light of that, this verse probably wasn’t written in the direction we are going to take today but yours truly has been given “divine discernment“😏 okay. Just hang with me.
Matthew 7:6 NKJV
“Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.
Often than not, if not more, we know that one person that after a break up behaves as though they can’t imagine that they actually got together with the person they were with be it personality-wise, status, values, morals whatever. Sometimes it’s even us in that position.
Is It Actually Pearls?
But here is the thing, a piece of substance can only command as much value as it actually is worth. However, it’s worth can only be seen and acknowledge by one who knows it’s true value.
In the hands of a hungry man, a chicken is food worth satisfying about a day’s hunger. In the hands of a poultry farmer, that same chicken is resource worth a business investment.
Our verse says, “don’t give your pearls to swine, lest they trample them under their feet and turn and tear you in pieces”. And they will because that is just about how much they value it. They will because as far as they are concerned, that is as much worth as they can give.
So to me, myself and I (you are welcomed to join us), we admonish ourselves to not lower or let down our standards and values and morals in whatever aspect or facet of our lives, whether in regards to relationships; romantic or platonic, spirituality/religion, career building or work ethics, self advancements (because yes, you can be your own swine), or even sustainability.
Because honestly, it can’t be sparkling pearly if it is mingled amongst swine.
