National Cake

National Cake?

Hmmmmm so what at all is this National Cake huh? Everyone eats from his workplace is more or less an old adage that has been around for quite some times. But the question is; “how true is this statement”.

I recently came across a lengthy post from someone who was bitterly lamenting on just how poor their working conditions are and yet they are expected to produce to their uttermost best. And before I translate to you just what was entailed in the post. Read this as open as possible. We all in one way or the other will find ourselves in this predicament (that’s if we haven’t already). Just because it is not glaring you right in the face doesn’t mean it is not there?

Okay so the post detailed the experience of a health worker, ‘A’ who claims to have been working for over twenty years in the system especially at a district without favourable conditions in general explaining how ‘A’ was working almost 24/7 because people will either not stay when they are posted there or not come at all. ‘A’ talked about how dismissive they would get when others (health workers) went on strikes and protest stating that these other (health workers) took an oath and that should be what they uphold and nothing else.

National Cake or oath?
Fast forward, ‘A’ gets ill and is sent to another facility to be taken care off and ‘A’ is met with shock. Not only does ‘A’ need to lobby in order to get a bed to be nursed on but there ain’t even items available to be used to care for ‘A’. As if that wasn’t enough, some personnel weren’t even available at said time because they were at other places to make extra something to get by.

And there ‘A’ was, asking where the nation goals they so hard upheld was, when there wasn’t even a single blame ‘A’ could merit out to the others. And what would that blame have been.

National Cake right? ‘A’ is just one of many from just the health sector. There are several others from other sectors who day in and day out ‘waste their youth‘ and yet can’t even ‘eat where they work‘.

So here I am asking, Where is our National Cake? Where is the reward for our toil? Someone make it understandable. What exactly is it that our law maker, policy makers … are doing with our countries and nations? How far are we to go for there to be feasible results? Is it #endsars, or #fixthecountry, or #blacklivesmatter, or #alllivesmatter that will do it? Honestly how far must we go?
